President Trump's special envoy Jeff Landry, who is also Louisiana's Governor, has made his first visit to Greenland claiming he wants to build relationships and friendships with the Arctic territory. The trip, which was made without an official invitation, comes as the U.S. attempts to resolve a diplomatic crisis caused by Trump's earlier threats to forcibly seize the semi-autonomous Danish territory for national security reasons. Greenland's Prime Minister firmly reiterated that the island is not for sale and that Greenlanders have the right to self-determination, while many local residents and officials gave Landry a cold reception.
